My husband, dog, and I just spent 4 glorious days up at Huntington Lake. We camped at the Rancheria Campground, which is right on the lake. Our camp site was huge, which I loved. There were at least 2 places to rent water crafts for very reasonable prices. Saturday we rented a canoe and paddled all over the lake. Midday when the water was getting choppy we pulled the canoe out of the water and hiked around. Sunday morning we renting a fishing skiff and did a little fishing by the bridge. We got a few bites but didn't catch anything. We did see 5 other people pull fish out of the water over the weekend. We had lunch on the island by the dam. Then around 3pm we found 2 more islands with a beach between them. We could actually walk from island to island! We had so much fun. We had planned on also seeing the falls and going to mono hot springs. But that will have to be for another time. I love living in Fresno!

Re: Huntington Lake
Tue, November 13, 2007 - 7:45 PMI was at mono hot springs at this same time, it seems I've found out that a few other people were in the same area that I knew, but did not plan on being here at the same time, I think next year we should all reserve one big group site... oh yeah, the Mono Hot Springs area is the best place in that area, there's tubing, the hot springs (hidden ones too), hiking, a nice small swimming lake (Doris) that's got two high cliffs you can dive off of if you dare (50' and a 30'), there is fishing, a restaurant, general store, cabins to rent and a lot of camp sites that fill up fast on the weekends. it is a summer time only place. I've had more fun at Mono than I ever had at Shaver Lake, or at Dinky Creak. I'm also surprised that there were few Fresno people there most people I met said they had come from Southern California or the Bay Area.
I'm ready to go for summer 2008, anyone else ready? -
